There is a restaurant in Great Falls called the Downtown Doghouse where the challenger must consume a 2-pound "Dogzilla Dog" complete with all the condiments: ketchup, mustard, tomatoes, pickle spear, relish, chili, and onions, and then washes it down with an 8-oz cannoli in under 12 minutes. A few of the other lieutenants in Mike's squadron participated in this challenge a while back, and so they all rallied to show their support as one of their own took on the Dogzilla.
The so-called current "King of the Dogzilla" was a young man who did the entire challenge in 4:52. Disgusting. Mike wasn't going out to break any records, but he did complete the challenge in under 10 minutes.
Bun options at the Downtown Doghouse include puppy, jumbo, and just plain crazy. The one Mike had to eat was the third one in.
The finished product...Mike said that some of his bites were just pure tomato slices, or pickle spear, which made this even more disgusting than it already is.
A good method is to cut the dog into three equal portions. See the cannoli? Its almost as big as the dog itself. Also, notice the official timer.
Probably the grossest part was was scooping up the condiments that had fallen off the dog while eating, and having to eat them plain.
As proof of challenge completion, you go next door to a photographer's studio, and he takes your picture which is then immortalized in the Doghouse forever in a frame on the wall. Lesson learned from the hot dog challenge? No one can ever take your accomplishments away from you. Here are the guys with "Rescue Rita," a dummy they use to practice using the hoist on the helicopter. Rita did not participate in the challenge, but somehow she has cannoli cream smeared all over her face.
